The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has issued another set of weather warnings concerning very cold temperatures expected from Monday, February 16 to Tuesday, February 17.
Most of the country – with the exception of northern Kurzeme and coastal districts – is covered by a yellow weather warning (potential danger) while the south and south-east of the country receives the more serious orange (danger) warning status.
The air temperature could drop to minus 24 Celsius in many parts of the country and potentially minus 29 Celsius in the most hard-hit districts of the south east in the hours between 19:00 and 10:00.
There are also warnings of poor air quality in parts of Rīga, Ventspils, Liepāja and Rēzekne.
Members of the public are urged to take suitable precautions.
