MADISON (WKOW) — There is still a few weeks until taxes are due, but Dane County is working to make the tax season a little less stressful for residents.
On Monday, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard highlighted a partnership with UW—Madison to provide free tax prep assistance to county residents through the Richard Dilley Tax Center.
The center provides in-person assistance to low-to-moderate income individuals and families from certified assistants.
“Last year alone, more than 303,100 returns were prepared here free of charge, and that resulted in over $4.8 million refunds going back into our communities,” said Agard.
There are over 85 volunteers serving at the center that has been executing the initiative since 2005.
Other primary partners include the UW—Madison South Partnership Office, Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service. The Center is funded in part by an IRS VITA grant.
The Tax Center is open Mondays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The fastest, most efficient way to make an appointment is online.
Those unable to register online may call 608-283-1261 to book an appointment. Phones are answered Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
