Here are Tuesday’s key updates on Israel, the West Bank, Gaza and the Middle East:
■ Addressing ongoing nuclear talks with Iran and the threat of U.S. military intervention, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said that “Trump is looking for which line can catch the biggest fish,” adding that a decision on a deal or U.S. strike is a matter of “weeks – not months.”
■ Speaking to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem on Monday, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said that there is “legitimate doubt” Iran would compromise in talks with the United States, and that he is “willing to stand in the middle” if another war between Israel and Iran is launched.
■ U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked Hungary’s nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the “indispensable role” he has played in U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, adding that U.S. negotiators are “on their way” to meet with Iranian officials.
■ Justice Minister Yariv Levin said he will not commit to obeying the High Court if it orders him to convene the Judicial Appointments Committee, after a show cause order was issued for Levin to explain why he hasn’t convened the committee, which has delayed the appointment of around 150 judges.
■ A man was fatally shot in the northern Israeli Arab town of Tamra, police said. The killing is suspected to be revenge for the murder of Wafa Awad on Thursday. A father and son were shot to death inside a car in the northern Arab Israeli city of Umm al-Fahm, raising Israel’s homicide rate to a total of 52 since the beginning of the year, with 47 from Arab society.
■ Israeli police tear-gassed an elementary school in the middle of the school day, in the Bedouin community of Tarabin in southern Israel.
