I’ve been a Slimming World member previously, and despite its detractors, I understand the attraction. I believe if you follow the recommendations properly, it delivers results.
I reckon Slimming World dishes and nibbles are an excellent approach to monitoring your calorie consumption whilst ensuring you’re getting adequate protein and vegetables, even if you’re not fully committed to their programme.
But what happens when you’re pressed for time and unable to rustle up a Slimming World-approved lunch?
That’s precisely where Iceland’s frozen selection can assist time-strapped individuals in maintaining their dietary objectives. The healthy living and slimming organisation has endorsed an extensive array of products designed to support both followers and non-followers in consuming nutritious meals, but are they actually tasty?
I received several items from the range to sample, and having enjoyed certain offerings previously (the Slimming World Cottage Pie is scrumptious), I was quite eager to get stuck in, reports the Express.
Nevertheless, there were certain letdowns for me on this occasion, with a few I definitely wouldn’t suggest.
To help you avoid wasting your cash, here’s my assessment, from least impressive to most impressive, of the items I sampled.
Slimming World 550g Chicken & Mushroom Ramen
Whilst this proved straightforward to prepare, sadly, the broth is bland and thin. I adore mushrooms, but these were gelatinous and devoid of any seasoning whatsoever.
And to make matters worse, the chicken was equally uninspiring. Slimming World ought to revisit this recipe; it simply wasn’t up to scratch. 1/10
Slimming World 300g Cauliflower Cheese
When you understand the fundamentals behind Slimming World, you can appreciate why cauliflower cheese fits perfectly with the programme. You’re far better off preparing your own; nevertheless, this frozen alternative falls short.
The sauce is far too runny and tangy, possibly due to the mature cheddar used. And there isn’t sufficient cauliflower, in my view, to justify it being a serving.
This might have been more palatable had I cooked it in the oven rather than the microwave, but the packaging does indicate you can microwave it, so the product ought to remain edible. 2/10
Slimming World 500g Beef Rendang
This didn’t look particularly inviting, but the sauce delivered a pleasant flavour; it carried a ginger quality with sweet undertones.
However, the beef was overly soft, and the vegetables were too chunky for my liking, particularly since the peppers were rather sharp, so it somewhat detracted from the decent sauce. 4/10
Slimming World 6 Pack Caramelised Onion Sausages
I genuinely hoped to enjoy these; nevertheless, if you’re keen on sausages, you’re bound to be let down. Whilst they’re simple to cook (I prepared mine in the air fryer) and palatable, consuming these will leave you feeling as though you’re restricting yourself.
The texture resembles a budget sausage; the absence of fat leaves it parched and rubbery, and this affects the overall taste. I couldn’t detect the caramelised onion, and the seasoning was generally underwhelming. 5/10
Slimming World Pasta Bolognese Bowl
With a generous scattering of cheese and a slice of garlic bread, this would make a brilliant, fuss-free lunch. I appreciate that defeats the purpose of Slimming World, but the calories you’re saving on the pasta can be allocated to the cheese.
I’d argue there’s quite a bit of sauce relative to the pasta noodles, but that’s where garlic bread could prove useful. I prepare bolognese regularly, and this doesn’t hold a candle to mine, but it does offer a pleasant hint of oregano and is crammed with hidden vegetables. 7/10
Slimming World 4 Pack Large Maple Pancakes
These pancakes caught me completely off guard. For starters, if you’ve ever attempted to make one of those “healthier” pancakes, you’ll understand just how underwhelming they can be.
But these were delightful. I simply chucked them in the toaster, and it created an incredibly straightforward breakfast.
The toaster gave them a satisfying crust that worked beautifully against the fluffiness within, and they’re a decent size.
There was a genuinely lovely maple flavour, and they’d be ideal on a lazy Sunday morning with whatever toppings you fancy. 9/10
Slimming World 4 Pack Large Blueberry Pancakes
Similarly, like the maple pancakes, these were excellent and incredibly convenient to grab and go when you’re pressed for time. Alternatively, you could have one as a snack or light lunch.
The blueberry flavour was lovely and zingy, something I don’t always chuck into homemade pancakes, so I was delighted with this addition and would definitely pick these up again. 10/10
