Two talented teams look to move on to the men’s ice hockey quarterfinals in Milan, as Czechia and Denmark face off in the playoff qualifiers of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
After a thrilling first few days of the men’s tournament in Italy, the knockout stage will provide even more excitement, as teams look to close in on the gold medal. From the big names of the NHL to stars in Europe, everyone is looking to represent their country proudly and make a deep run in the tournament.
Czechia came to Milan as one of the dark horses to compete for a medal. With a solid young goaltender in Lukas Dostal, and strong offensive weapons led by Boston Bruins star David Pastrnak, the team was poised to be a fun team to watch.
However, things have not panned out for the Czechs. Starting with a lopsided loss to Canada, the team looked to be fighting an uphill battle. They barely beat France before losing to Switzerland in their preliminary-round finale. Czechia ended up finsihing third in Group A.
Denmark also finished third in their pool, though the team’s finish in Group C felt more like a confidence boost. After keeping up with the United States, the Danes came away with a win over Latvia on Sunday to give the team some confidence heading into the playoffs. Not bad for a team filled with a couple of NHLers.
Winner of this game will get to face top-seeded Canada in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
