Cass Lacelle, star of Freeform’s “Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise,” has died at the age of 34.
According to her loved ones in a post on her Instagram account on Monday, the star died on Feb. 11 after a short battle with ovarian cancer.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our beloved Cass has passed after her short but incredibly courageous battle with cancer,” read the post signed by Bianca Mora, Meg Chandler, Ella, and Kylie Nicholls.
“Cass leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured,” the statement continued. “She is the definition of memorable; in just 34 years, she made an extraordinary impact on everyone who crossed her path. She taught us that life is precious, meant to be embraced wholeheartedly and never wasted. Boredom was her biggest enemy. Cass had a rare gift for making people feel truly alive and bringing everyone together, she was the glue.”
They also noted her “ability to be there in a meaningful way for so many people was a superpower and we hope people find comfort in memories shared with her. Because she has touched so many people far and wide, her wish was for one final post to be shared.”
In closing, the statement read, “Our dearest Cass, you have been very brave, for so very long. You did not yield. Forever, our Fireheart.”
Lacelle first revealed to her followers last May that she had been diagnosed with Mucinous adenocarcinoma, a rare form of ovarian cancer, and underwent surgery to remove a tumor. She also completed three rounds of chemotherapy by the end of the summer.
In a health update that was posted on Jan. 4, Lacelle tearfully revealed that her cancer had returned and was different this time around.
“My cancer is back and this time around is aggressive; it has metastasized to my liver, stomach, abdominal lining, and omentum,” she shared.
She also added that she hadn’t experienced a pain-free day since mid-November.
Lacelle was one of the stars of Freeform’s “Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise,” which aired in 2024 and consisted of 10 episodes.
The network describes the series as a “docusoap” that follows rich and on-the-rise locals navigating relationships, friendships and careers on the island paradise.
