Locals reported explosions in the Iranian capital of Tehran and the southern city of Shiraz on Wednesday, with footage shared on social media appearing to show pillars of smoke rising from the reported explosion site.

In Tehran, the smoke appears to be rising near a residential area in Parand, Tehran Province.

The cause of the fire was due to “dried reeds” along the river banks, which were set alight by arsonists, the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported.

In Shiraz, there were reports of an explosion in a mountainous area near the city.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear.

This is a developing story.
