In Dresden, a visit to the Royal Palace (Residenzschloss) reveals an impressively ornate facade, a remarkable collection of opulent objects and an awe-inspiring Protestant chapel dating back to the Renaissance. For something older still, head to Stuttgart, where the Old Castle – a former stronghold of the Württemberg dynasty with roots going back more than 1,000 years – sits at the heart of the city.
Culture is never an add-on in Germany – it’s woven into the landscape. Arrive curious, and you’ll leave inspired.
