Explain why this is wrong…

  1. What is wrong?

I think Trump is even more fascist than the AfD, but otherwise, it may help to understand German politics to Americans.

  2. Bernie belongs to the SPD at most. The US really has nothing that is comparable to our parties left of the SPD.

  3. I don’t know who half of these people are. Also trump/Pence are to authright for even the AFD. Sanders goes to the left part of the SPD.

I don’t know about the map. Is it of the lesser important first vote (Erststimme) or just the usual “what if Geany had a system as broken as the US one” map?

  4. You can’t compare European politics directly with US politics. If that’s supposed to be Bernie Sanders representing Die Linke, for example… no, absolutely not. I mean, half of his “radical left” positions are things we consider normal over here, and the other half are just basic Nordic-style social democracy.

  5. Why do you think right leaning political positions are wrong? Because everyone wants a hand out from the government? If the people weren’t taxed to death, they wouldn’t need a hand out! An education system that teaches you the system and how to rely on the system isn’t an education system. An education that teaches you to think, to be self reliant and to see the truth is far better.

  6. I actually was trying to make a meme for my friends back in Cyprus, where I had to replace German party names with Cypriot ones, and *nothing* lines up. It goes to show you how different the political spectrum is.

SPD for example, is way too politcally centrist to be compared to our socialist party (which is also not leftist enough to be compared to Die Linke), but also way too progressive to be compared to our strangely conservative social-democratic party. The German Greens are much more progressive and economically leftist than the Cypriot Green Party (which may be closer to ÖDP). Our corresponding parties to CDU and FDP are a single party. So on and so forth.

So yeah, the point of the meme is well taken, but it’s really wrong. I faced the same difficulties.

  7. Bernie Sanders in The Left. That was a good joke. Put Bernie in the SPD and Trump to the NPD and you have a rough guideline.
What Americans see as “left” is center for Europeans. US-Politics have shifted very much to the right (partially because u killed any major leftist thoughts in the 50s)
