Why isn’t Tove Lo more popular in Sweden? I thought she’d be bigger in her home country than she is in the US, but she hasn’t had much chart success in Sweden either. I think she’s the best Swedish pop star since Robyn. Her songwriting is good & catchy, & her videos are very creative:

I would guess that more than 50% of swedes listen to “non-domestic” music.
Hell I’m a swede and I don’t follow/listen to any swedish artist other than Nordman and Imperiet. 95% of the music I listen to is foreign (US, UK mostly)
Chart position ≠ Popularity
There are lots of good artists everywhere and only so much time to listen to music. Never heard of her, but I’m sure she’s good at what she does.

Because Sweden has a lot of really good domestic artists, that just unfortunately aren’t famous abroad.

So today I learned that there apparently is an artist in my homecountry called Tove Lo. I guess you learn something new everyday!

I feel like she has focused her entire career on making it outside of Sweden. We’re not hearing her any more than the US is, so I think it’s just that. She’s coming from the outside in, and she’s poppy enough to be mainstream, but not mainstream enough to make it super-big. So she fills a rather small hole in the music-scene here. But she does her own thing and I respect that.
Tbh I liked the song you posted. I don’t like the video, and I think the lyrics are bad. But as I said, I respect her doing her thing. I also have no idea why people seem to get upset by your question.
I think her team is aiming to make her big in the US and isn’t focusing on marketing her here.

Pop is an incredibly dull genre. I can’t recall the last time I heard a pop song with captivating lyrics, it’s the McDonald’s of music, just there for “Hype”.
She also uses electronic, which I cannot stand. I want instruments played by real people, a music producer cannot imitate the feel and soul of a master at their instrument, it just sounds hollow.
Because she simply isn’t that good and we have a lot other hotter singers for those “adventurous” videos to hit off.

Veronica Maggio is virtually unknown outside of Scandinavia and I much prefer her to Tove Lo.
Now, she sings in Swedish, but she’s an example of similar music, but much better imo.
I think it’s mainly marketing. You’ve mentioned Zara Larsson and I think a reason to why she is more known is beaches she markets get album releases here.
