LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Consumers Energy customers will soon no longer be able to make in-person payments at the Lansing office.
Consumers announced Friday it is planning to close its direct payment office in Lansing at the end of May.
Officials say this is the result of “a reduction in customer traffic” and the utility is “encouraging customers to use more convenient and efficient ways of interacting with us.”
Consumers says this change affects only the payment office, not any other operations at the Lansing location as of Friday.
“We are committed to communicating with our customers who use this location and helping them make this transition,” Consumers said in a statement.
Consumers began sharing this information at the payment office this week and will send the following email to customers who use that office.
“Over the past few years, more customers have transitioned to our expanded digital payment options, which deliver faster, more efficient processing. As a result, fewer customers are using our payment offices.
With the changing landscape, we’re permanently closing the Lansing payment office, effective June 1, 2026. The last day of operations will be May 29.
