German lawmakers approve €12 minimum wage

  1. Sucks if you’re a low-skill worker with a productivity of 10 euros an hour trying to build your skills and gain valuable experience. Right off the ladder for you.

  2. Great news.

I have issue with them comparing minimum wages at the end of the article. They should talk about minimum wage per hour as different countries use different working weeks to calculate the monthly minimum. France’s MW is €10.57/hour compared to €10.50 in Ireland, yet Ireland uses a 39 hour week compared to France’s 35 hours.

  3. In other news, the increase of 22% in minimum wage leads to producers of basic goods like food, energy, clothing increasing their prices by approximately 22%

  4. Could someone clarify whethere this applies to all indyustry sectors? Like, farming, too? Or direct me to where I can make sure it’s like this.

  5. Oh so nice for Germany. Meanwhile in Greece the starting hourly pay for engineering graduates (5 year degree) is almost half that. How wonderful, isn’t ten years of austerity awesome?

Good news for German workers though, I can’t hate on that.

  6. Would’ve been nice back in the day when the idea of €12 was initially conceived, but years of inflation later it’s merely a step in the right direction.
