Parts of England are set to enjoy temperatures higher than Greece tomorrow (Sunday), according to new weather maps. While much of Greece, including Athens, is only expected to reach around 11C, the UK could see 14C as warm air pushes in from the south-west.

Charts from weather service YR show large areas of Greece in light yellow shades, meaning temperatures between 8C and 12C on Sunday, February 22. Even typically warm regions such as Athens, Thessaloniki and the Aegean coast will hover close to 11C. By contrast, the Met Office temperature map for the same time shows England turning noticeably warmer.

At 3pm on Sunday, the Met Office map shows London at 14C, with Manchester and Cardiff at 12C and Belfast and Glasgow at 9C.

Much of England and Wales appears covered in darker yellow and nearly orange shading, suggesting spring-like conditions.

The warmest spots are expected in the south-east, where sunshine is forecast to break through after rain clears in the morning.

The Met Office’s five-day forecast also says that Sunday will be the brightest day of the weekend.

It reads: “Cloud and rain clearing the southeast during the morning. Blustery showers persisting in the north, elsewhere largely dry with sunny spells. Staying breezy but feeling pleasant in the sunshine.”

Before that, Saturday will stay cloudy and damp for many places. The Met Office says: “Mostly cloudy with further rain moving into western areas, this heaviest over the hills. Some drier and brighter skies in the east developing at times. Mild again, but staying breezy.”

Overnight, more rain moves through before clearing into Sunday’s brighter conditions.

The warmer air does not mean settled weather, however. The forecast for Monday to Wednesday turns more unsettled again, with the Met Office warning: “Monday starts drier before rain spreads from the west.

“Tuesday and Wednesday are similar with mostly cloudy skies, rain in the west and brighter spells east. Breezy and mild still.”

Despite the incoming rain next week, Brits are set to enjoy Sunday’s temperatures. England’s 14C forecast is several degrees above what is typical for mid-February.

The warmest weather is expected between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday, when most of England experiences double-digit temperatures.
