The planning system in Ireland is a complete joke. Original planning granted August 2020 and it’s taken nearly 2 years to hear an appeal. Even if the judgment is correct, it shouldn’t take nearly 2 years. They probably has to wait about a year for the original planing permission. How are we to get anything built if the planning process is way longer than the construction times
And a great cheer went up from the ranks of the brave NIMBYs who battle the evils of new housing.
The planning wasn’t overturned becaise of an adverse finding in the environmental report, just that the environmental report didn’t sufficiently address certain things. So presumably the developer can get an updated report and resubmit the application.
All this objection does is delay the delivery of apartments.
Love to ask these boomers where do they expect their kids or grandkids to live.
They probably complain same time that they live far away and traffic is so awful around the area to visit regardless.
This will get a new environment report and likely go ahead 4 years later. Boils my blood NIMBY is there if you have the finances to object like in south Dublin.. .
My head hurt after trying to read that, it pretty much copied the judge’s verdict. Sometimes it is good to get the exact detail but not sure this was one of them. But based on all of this it does confirm my thoughts that the legal and planning process in Ireland need reform.
> Monkstown Road Residents Association and three individual residents; […] a retired Dublin city sheriff, […] a chartered accountant [and] a social entrepreneur […] had brought judicial review proceedings challenging the permission granted by An Bord Pleanála in August 2020.
Not a lot of working class people objecting I’d imagine.
The fuck is a ‘social entrepreneur’? Does he have a TikTok or something?
2 years? Seriously? What a farce.
Its a pity nobody objected to the crappy semi d’s built all over Monkstown in the 60s and 70s.
Fuck all of these NIMBYs. I want to move the fuck out of this area to not be around these assholes and then at least my place will free up for someone.
There are parts of Dublin that literally can’t accommodate any more properties because their sewers are already at capacity, but they’re still trying to cram any shoebox sized apartments to rent anywhere they can. I think we badly need high-rises though, and at the bare minimum, competent city planning.
