RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Iranians in the Triangle decorated their cars with the former Iranian flag for a car rally, urging the Trump Administration to take immediate action to help the people of Iran.
The car rally Saturday comes as President Trump is out with a stern warning for Iranian leaders, as both sides negotiate a deal over a new Iranian nuclear deal, and ABC News reports US military assets have moved into place for possible strikes against Iran.
Farrah Pour was one of the dozens who gathered, calling for an end to the Iranian regime and freedom for their loved ones still in the country.
“The only message I have for all people, especially in the United States, is to just help and support the people of Iran, they really need that,” she said.
Mo Pourjafari, of Wake Forest, says he has lost some friends and cousins to the violence in Iran over the last month.
“A few friends got shot and got killed. So that’s why I’m here, to be their voice,” he said. “We want to be our people’s voice and we want the American government, just to stop telling us help is on the way and act right now. President Trump, act now, please.”
They and others gathered for a car rally displaying what they say is the true flag of Iran, the flag flown before the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
“We are going to drive from here to Raleigh to just show our love to our loved ones in Iran and present our flag,” said Pourjafari.
The group started at the Regal Cinemas in Brier Creek, drove down US 70, and ended at the Marbles IMAX Theater in Downtown Raleigh.
Fara Pourshariati said the car rally is meant to elevate their voices and build up support here in the U.S.
“I mean it, help. Please help. And please be our voice and support us,” she said. “This is about human rights violations. We want the whole Europe and whole United States to know what’s happening is a genocide.”
She shared a message in Farsi, the language of Iran, for those in Iran, which has been translated in part below.
“To the people of Iran, we just want to let you know we are here to support you. We’re going to echo your voice. 8 million Iranians are outside of the country here to support you,” she said. “Hang in there. The victory is coming soon.”
ABC News reports more than 7,000 protesters have been killed in Iran over the last month.
