JACKSON, Tenn. (WSMV) – A murder investigation is underway after a body was found in a crawl space under a home Saturday, according to the Jackson Police Department.
JPD said officers took a report regarding the disappearance of 31-year-old Mirna Ortez Moncada on Feb. 16, and since then, the department’s Special Victims Unit has been investigating.
On Saturday, officers responded to a home on Raintree Cove after they were contacted by Moncada’s family. There, they discovered the body in the crawl space.
JPD said the body has been tentatively identified by the family as Moncada, but the official confirmation is still pending. The remains have been taken to Nashville for an autopsy to confirm the identity and cause of death.
The investigators are treating the case as a suspected homicide, JPD said. The investigation is ongoing.
“Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477,” JPD said.
