500 years ago, the Swiss were a feared military power in Central Europe. Their victory against the French King’s forces on June 6th 1513 at Novara (near Milan) marked the zenith of Swiss power and their last great military victory.

    Edit: For those who don’t know what I’m referring to the treaty/peace of Gallarate where Bern, Soleure and Fribourg took money from François the 1st and withdrew their forces.

    I learned it in school a long time ago so I don’t have a primary source, but this google book “History of Switzerland 1499-1914” page 53 will give some details about it.
