Naftogaz for the first time imported American liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Deutsche ReGas terminal on the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. This step is viewed as an important milestone in diversifying supply sources and strengthening the country’s energy security.
The head of the company, Serhiy Koretsky, said that after regasification in Germany, it is planned to supply natural gas through Poland to Ukraine in February.
“For us, this is not just a new direction. It is the result of trust and coordinated work with partners. In the face of ongoing Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure, every additional gas supply channel increases our energy security.”

In November 2025, Naftogaz agreed with the Polish company ORLEN to supply American liquefied gas to Ukraine in a volume of not less than 300 million cubic meters.
Context and Significance for Energy Security
Considering geopolitical challenges, additional LNG supply routes from the US via Europe support the stability of gas supplies for Ukrainian consumers and reduce dependence on single delivery routes. Regasification in Europe allows faster adjustment of gas transmission flows and increases the reliability of the country’s energy system.
