This is probably the longest shot in the history of longshots, but I thought I’d try this way to stop my brain from toturing me.

Long story short, when I was a teenager (35 now) in a little town in the West of Ireland called Newport I spotted a grey Daihatsu Charade Gtti parked outside of the GAA pitch ( of course). It had a huge DC Sports sticker on the rear window.

Of course having no money at the time I couldn’t buy it. I then bugged my dad to go halfsies on it, however I never saw it again after that and the person I think had it said it was sold on.

Has anyone out there in Reddit Land seen this car, or am I just gonna stop kidding myself and realise that it has been scrapped year’s ago.

Pic in link is a horrendously bad Photoshop of what the car looked like from the back. https://ibb.co/6n7BKvB

Many thanks in advance

  1. Would you believe I’ve a vague recollection of this car.

My grandparents (long since passed away) were from Newport and retired there so visited often as a child. Still head down that way almost every year with family. Will be down again in a couple of months and can keep an eye out, I don’t have any strong memory of having seen it in recent years but then again I wasn’t looking out for it.

  2. Your post made me smile, you sound exactly like my fella, you’d swear his old cars were ex lovers..he even has a photo folder in his phone of every car he’s ever owned .If he sees them on donedeal for sale,he goes on and on about them and all the memories he has of them,he’d actually kill me if he seen this..Hope you find it😀

  3. What a wholesome post and I wish you the best.

My advice would be to post this in some Newport FB Groups for leads.

If none are available, you could approach one of the local businesses with a good active FB page (usually pubs be at this craic and have very active FB pages) and see if they could share your story? I imagine the FB page would love all the shares, comments and traffic to the page.

If you are very bought into this, may be worth approaching the local radio station about it!

Best of luck and give us an update sometime!
