More than 70% of 16 – 24 years old need some form of vision correction according to several studies like [https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/neue-studie-kurzsichtigkeit-in-der-schweiz-nimmt-weiter-zu](https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/neue-studie-kurzsichtigkeit-in-der-schweiz-nimmt-weiter-zu) and [https://www.rts.ch/info/sciences-tech/5763972-la-myopie-progresse-chez-des-enfants-de-plus-en-plus-jeunes.html](https://www.rts.ch/info/sciences-tech/5763972-la-myopie-progresse-chez-des-enfants-de-plus-en-plus-jeunes.html) and the rate is increasing every year By 2050, more than half of world population is expected to have eye issues
That seems huge to me, especially because in my everyday life it seems to me most people don’t wear glasses Are contact lenses and/or eye surgery that popular ?
On a side note, are there other people here who are the only one in their family to have eye issues ? I always felt bad being the only one to need glasses, none of my 3 siblings or parents ever had any eye issue, is this common ?

Contacts since I’m 13. Can’t see shit without them.
Contacts are pretty common. That can be a reason why you don’t notice people with corrected vision.
You will not find enough people here to have a valid statistic sample.
That said, I do need glasses in everyday life and I will often put on contact lenses when i go out to be “more free”. It is quite common for the glasses-wearing people that I know.
Also, I’m the only one in my family of four (if you exclude age-related loss of sight). It is not your fault (most likely) that you need glasses, put the blame on your parents! /s
150 years ago, the short sighted would not reproduce. Nor did they spend a lot of time focussing on objects less than arm’s length (computer, phone)
I wear contacts always, as do many people I know.
Purely anecdotal but could it be that more people need glasses because more people sit in front of the computer all day? Personally I have glasses, but only because it’s more comfortable when I work at my PC all day. I wouldn’t need them otherwise, and don’t need them in daily life.
