Ukraine is on the verge of a financial catastrophe. Already in April, the country may lose the ability to finance its own expenses. However, many parliamentarians and government representatives are ignoring this threat, as reported by agronews.ua.

This warning was issued by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy, Danilo Hetmantsev, in an interview with Forbes.

The parliamentarian notes that there is currently a significant budget deficit. The state has already started spending the funds allocated for the second half of 2026.

“Not all colleagues (in the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers) have a sense of financial tragedy. I have it, the Minister of Finance has it, because he understands that in April there will be no funds to finance expenses. Today we are already using the funds that were allocated for the second half. The IMF’s position on the agreed milestones is very simple – they are mandatory. And moving them from prior action did not change this attitude,” said the MP.

Danilo Hetmantsev adds that the government agrees to the reforms outlined in the International Monetary Fund program. However, at the same time, some government actions are currently only complicating the situation. This includes increasing payments to 15% within the “absolutely ineffective cashback program.”

Considering these initiatives, Hetmantsev believes that many officials and MPs are treating the possible budget crisis too lightly. However, in his opinion, the threat of a financial catastrophe is very real.

“Therefore, many in the government and parliament do not have a sense of financial tragedy, everyone thinks that somehow it will work out because in the past, such periods have been overcome. This time the situation is different,” emphasized the parliamentarian.
