Crossing the Polish border requires compliance with a number of requirements, including proof of financial solvency for the duration of the stay. The rules apply to both Ukrainian citizens and citizens of other countries, although the amounts for these categories differ. Recently, the In Poland portal reminded about the current financial requirements published on the Polish government portal.

How much money you need to have with you, how to calculate it depending on the duration of your trip, and what else the border service takes into account — we will tell you more in this article.

Minimum amount for Ukrainian citizens at the Polish border

For Ukrainians crossing the border with Poland, a separate minimum threshold of PLN 200 has been set. This amount is a basic requirement that can be checked by the border service during passport control. It is important to understand that this is a minimum, and having this amount does not in itself guarantee automatic passage.

The final decision on entry permission is always made by the Polish border service. Officers may additionally assess the purpose of the trip, the availability of a return ticket, and other circumstances. Therefore, it is recommended to have an amount exceeding the established minimum, as well as documents confirming the purpose of the visit.

How much money do foreigners need to travel to Poland for different periods?

For foreign citizens, there are generally different, slightly higher financial requirements. The minimum amount for a short stay of up to 4 days is PLN 300. These requirements apply during border control and are mandatory for confirmation.

A stay longer than 4 days requires at least PLN 75 for each day of the trip. Thus, for a one-month stay (30 days), it is necessary to confirm the availability of PLN 2,250. The calculation is quite simple: just multiply the number of planned days of stay by PLN 75 to get an approximate amount.

Return ticket and funds for returning from Poland

In addition to confirming the availability of funds for living expenses, foreigners are also required to have a return ticket or sufficient funds to return to their country of origin. This is standard practice for most Schengen countries, and Poland is no exception.

Border guards may ask to see your ticket in printed or electronic form. If you do not have a ticket, you must demonstrate your financial ability to purchase one. Therefore, before traveling, it is worth taking care of all the necessary confirmations in advance to avoid unnecessary questions and delays at the border.

Green card for traveling to Poland in your own car

Those who plan to travel to Poland in their own car, in addition to financial requirements, must also take care of car insurance. A green card is a mandatory international civil liability insurance policy, without which it is impossible to cross the border in your own vehicle. The document confirms the availability of insurance protection outside Ukraine.

You can quickly and conveniently apply for a Green Card on the Visit Ukraine portal. The policy is valid in all Schengen countries, including Poland, and can be obtained online in a matter of minutes.

Reminder! Poland is revising the rules for Ukrainians’ stay and repealing a special law that has been in force since 2022. New rules will come into force on March 5, changing the procedure for registration, obtaining temporary protection status, and access to social benefits. What will happen to PESEL UKR, will the legality of residence be preserved, and who may be denied support — we analyze this in this article.
