Man accused of murder denies acting the hard man

  1. Free that man. Done a great service. He’s also holding up full-time employment unlike the scum that attacked him and have presumably never worked a day in their lives (I’m aware he’s 16 but doubt he was contributing positively in any shape or form to society).

  2. >wanted to deal with the situation himself while armed with a knife, rather than involve gardaí.

What exactly would the Gardai do? As a deliveroo driver he’s probably dealt with this shit plenty and has friends who also have and the gardai do nothing, so he decided to protect himself. It just ended up terribly in the end.

  3. The guards would have done fuck all even if he called them. I got assaulted in that area a few years ago, knew it was about to happen and called the local garda station. The guard on the phone said to me ‘and what age are you?’, as in I was clearly an adult man and shouldn’t be calling them over this. Got assaulted, and they closed the investigation because of no independent witnesses.

With this incident, there were over 10 chaps ready to kick the shit out of the two Brazilian delivery drivers. The other one who didn’t stab anyone got his teeth broken and was being kicked and punched by 3 guys at the same time. Of course there was a threat on their lives. It’s more of a gardai failure in my opinion.

  4. Gardai are hopelessly ineffective at tackling violent crime. It’s hard to blame anyone for carrying weapons to defend themselves as you sure as fuck cant count on either Gardai or members of the public to intervene on your behalf.

That someone fees the need to carry a weapon is a sad indictment of our policing and legal systems IMO.

  5. It should never have had to escalate to this point. If Gardai and the law were dealing with the problem of antisocial behaviour and intimidation from gangs of young people then this guy would never have had to protect himself. It’s a tragedy all round. Sad that this kid lost his life and I am sure this guy will already be living with the guilt of what happened, what ever the outcome of this trial is.

  6. As we seen with that lad who pushed a woman in front of a train and walked away, violent offenders won’t be punished by the gards or the courts on this country.

If delivery drivers feel they need to carry knives to defend themselves I say more power to them I hope the fear of being put in the ground makes the scrotes at least think twice about it.

  7. Atleast Josh’s friends might think twice about assaulting random people from now on, though they probably won’t

  8. This is probably the only sub where an adult male can murder a child with a concealed weapon and everyone blames the victim. So he was out being a scrote, and everyone here is happy to collectively agree that he somehow deserved to die? For stealing a bicycle?!

  9. A few absolute dummies in this thread arguing that carrying a knife means you have intent to do harm to someone else. You should try carrying a wee pocket knife for a few weeks. You will be amazed how often you use it for everyday things and once you get used to it you will never leave it at home. I started carrying a 3 inch folding knife for work 18 years ago and now it’s the first thing I put in my pocket when getting dressed.
