Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is pushing to complete the single market and bring member states economic efforts together. Economists warned that fragmentation and underinvestment could hold back growth. EU leaders want to cut bureaucracy, lower energy costs, and encourage private investment to strengthen European industry.

France backed strategies favoring European producers, while Germany and the Netherlands worried about protectionism. Council President Antonio Costa highlighted the need for investment and said the European Commission will present a strategic plan in March to guide Europe’s economy until 2027.
