Spotify is expanding access to its AI-powered Prompted Playlists, which let Premium users generate playlists from a simple text prompt that will be grounded in their entire listening history. Following an initial launch in New Zealand and an expansion to the US and Canada, the feature is now available in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden.
“Prompted Playlist draws on your full listening history and combines it with what’s happening across the world of music and culture right now, so the result reflects both your old favorites and what’s trending. Each track also includes a short one-liner explaining why it fits,” the company explained today.
To create a Prompted Playlist, Premium users in supported markets just need to tap Create, select ‘Prompted Playlist’, and then describe what they want to hear. The AI-generated playlists can be refreshed daily or weekly, and they can also be shared with others who will be able to personalize them to their tastes.
Spotify’s Prompted Playlist is the company’s first attempt at giving users more control over their algorithmic recommendations. However, as this is still a beta feature, Spotify implemented some usage limits, including for scheduled updates for these playlists. The team said that these usage thresholds will evolve as the company gets more feedback from users.
