ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) – Adults over 60 lost nearly $5 billion to fraud last year, according to the FBI, as National Consumer Protection Week approaches.
Experts warn scammers are now using artificial intelligence to clone voices from social media clips to trick family members into sending money.
Other emerging scams include “smishing” — text messages about fake deliveries designed to steal personal information — and “juice jacking,” in which public USB charging ports at airports and malls are used to steal data from connected devices.
Experts advise against giving sensitive information over the phone and against using public USB chargers.
