Boris Johnson has spoken out about his final encounter with the disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, revealing he was forced to bar him from a high-profile event to protect the late Queen Elizabeth from embarrassment.
The former Duke of York is currently residing in temporary accommodation ahead of his planned move to Marsh Farm on the King’s Sandringham estate.
Last week, Andrew suffered yet another humiliation after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, spending 11 hours in custody before being released under investigation.
Andrew’s spectacular fall from grace was further compounded by explosive revelations surrounding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, contained within the latest batch of documents released by the US Department of Justice, , reports the Express.
His dramatic downfall, however, began unravelling back in 2019, following his catastrophic BBC Newsnight interview regarding Epstein, shortly after which he announced his withdrawal as a senior working royal.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has now spoken candidly about his final meeting with the disgraced former Duke, during which he was tasked with delivering the unwelcome news that Andrew was effectively banned from a major public ceremony in the wake of the Newsnight debacle.
Mr Johnson wrote in the Daily Mail: “The second long – and indeed the last conversation I had with Andrew – took place when I was PM, and I was for some reason deputed to tell him that he could not attend some big public ceremony, for fear of embarrassing his mother and the whole institution of the monarchy.”
“This time I had to go to Windsor to break the bad news. He was not thrilled. I tried to cheer him up.
“Look, I said, he needed to be a bit humble. He had to understand how people felt about things, ever since that disastrous interview on Newsnight. He needed to build back his reputation.”
Ms Johnson’s optimism proved wildly misplaced, as Andrew’s standing has deteriorated further following humiliating photographs showing him kneeling over a woman on all fours, which surfaced in the most recent tranche of documents.
Andrew has consistently refuted any allegations of misconduct and remains silent regarding the latest Epstein files.
