Construction industry lobbyists helped to draft building works bill

  1. *The Department of Housing allowed the CIF to provide input into proposed legislation before it was published, new records have revealed*

I can’t access the rest of the paywall but if someone could be so kind as to paste the rest ..

  2. Ah well don’t you know, we don’t have corruption here. Just legalized ones that get called a fancy name like lobbying.

  3. Would it not be generally expected that the industry that will be impacted would be allowed give their input and thoughts on proposed legislation? Used to be quite common in my old tax advisor job that we would be asked for input in proposed new tax legislation.

  4. Oh my god, industry that will be affected by regulations provide input on the regulations….

So long as they don’t write the regulation themselves, and those writing it could and would push back, this would be expected to happen in a reasonable process. I can’t personally say if this was the case or not, but the headline in and of itself means fuck all…

Regulation in my industry is constant consultation between those regulated and the regulator. That’s how you come up with good, workable regulation.

  5. > Construction industry lobbyists closely coordinated with state officials on the drafting of legislation that was being created to clamp down on so-called “cowboy builders”

I find sensible having experts in the field providing insight into how bad actors operate.

  6. I’m amazed that there is even more red tape being applied to the construction sector given the current shortage of any kind of labour.

  7. Why do I have a feeling this will basically fuck over people doing any self build work themselves or take a load of immigrant workers out of the labour force
