Only because the UK has favourable (easy to legally avoid) off shore corporate tax rules and very weak employment laws (compared to EU). Global tech companies like all companies are agnostic about where they base operation, they’ll migrate to the easiest countries from a tax and legislation perspective, so this is not about the UK being somehow attractive to these companies, they’d move in an instant if it meant more profit.
That’s not good, we need to moving things away from London. A northern city should be Europe’s silicon Valley instead.
