Yup, oil has climbed a good bit in the last week. Get ready for a mauling at the petrol stations.
Russia will just sell to the rest of the world, the only people that are going to face consequences of this decision are ordinary citizens of the EU, seems like we’re shooting ourselves in the foot.
This “new era” will pair nicely with the coalition’s toothless WFH legislation. Gotta keep those commuters on the road
Supposedly the price of renewable energy is pegged to the price of gas, but can’t find a source on that.
If it is, that’s a bit of a kick in the balls given the vast amounts of public money that have been given towards renewable energy development, in fact there is a levy for this on every electricity bill since 2001. While it’s great that government did give renewables support, it’s not exactly an even trade if we aren’t receiving anything in return and their profit margin is more than healthy.
I know this for the greater good and all. But damn this is so hard to take. Its easy for people who are weathly. Especially ones who work on site
Most of us wont be able to go on any holiday here or abroad too.
Fuck sake
Time to absolutely throw money at renewables. Wind, solar and battery. And at least one medium scale nuclear power plant. Tailored research doctorates into exploring tidal and wave power, as well as if there’s any scope for Ireland to use geothermal energy. It won’t bring costs down but if we’re going to be paying, we might as well pay for something that doesn’t destroy the planet.
Yeah, much of this they can’t control. The parts that they can control, though, they should be doing better on. Invest in infrastructure & public transport sooner rather than later. The way energy prices and inflation generally is going, it’s not going to be possible for many people to economically run a car soon and there is just no other option if you live rural in this country, which is just ridiculous.
Like a shitty supervillain….
How about scrapping the carbon tax and excise duty then , super easy to do
Doesn’t Ireland have like untapped oil sources right at the coast?
They were high before the war in Ukraine, I can’t remember what he was blaming it on then
Ireland is the biggest wind battery on the planet remember.
Don’t be fucking stupid all over again.
Would a greater incentive plan to place solar and other renewable sources on homes / apartments and other residential commercial buildings not reduce this need to import huge amounts of electricity?
Pre pandemic I was helping pricing up a solar solution and with the price of electricity back then a 5 year pay back was likely. But if the solar panels break once over 5 years.. the maintenice cost increased the pay back to a unrealistic amount.
The Oracle has spoken. Fucking donkey.
even fucking russian has buses going to ends of nowhere country sides. Russia only has 2-4 main cities that are “rich” and the rest of RU is stone age still lmao. Here, trains are expensive and shit as well as buses. Taxi is expensive too but understandably so.
Can we get a new era of wages?
Sound.
A peace deal would fix this but no hope there.
I hope you’re all lashing up the insulated plasterboard and stuffing the attic with mineral wool! Evenings by candlelight might make a comeback, like in Dickens’ times.
I’ve a crazy idea where we keep using Russian oil and maybe try to get a peace deal on the table? No one gave a single fuck about any other invasion in my lifetime but this one is over the top I guess.
Because of the war my bollix. Every ten years or so 99.9% of people are told to ‘tighten your belts’. Our systems are failing.
Cut taxes you bollox
Tbh this will be followed by a great decline and phase out of old energy sources as this increased costs will only fan the flames of development of renewable energy sources
You let the Green clowns close a turf power station , then the greens voted fir data centers ….then the greens objected to gas storage …now coujd be looking at rolling power cuts . Utter gobshites.
He’s a bit late to this topic eh
Lads, ladettes & the broader ladless community, whatever.
This is the price we’re going to pay to keep Putin’s mad plans in check.
How quick the EU & wider can source our energy needs will be how long the bills stay high.
If we could, as ‘promised’ by our politicians, ramp up the switch over to renewables, we’d be a net exporter… but until then… pay up & look happy.
