How Amsterdam became the bicycle capital of the world | Cities

  1. Lived there for a while, neat city, people just riding bikes on the street along with cars, biking tracks everywhere, one of my favorite bigger cities in Europe for sure

  2. during my first trip to amsterdam, i was high as fuck and started to grow anxiety at night because those cyclists would pop out of nowhere at full speed and with no light. I dont know how they do it, but they really ninja their way and make no noise – even when they move in a wolf-pack like formation – so I never felt confident enough to have my music headphones on lol

  3. Coming from NYC, my experiences biking in Amsterdam were like a dream. It was safe, well-designed, and so much less stressful. It’s interesting to see all the work that went into making it that way. We’ve made big strides in NYC over the last few years with protected lanes and better design, but we still have a long way to go to catch up.

  4. Bicyclists in Amsterdam are traffic terrorists, they don’t know nor care about traffic rules and think they are above the law. Besides that they are pretty rude. Sorry to disturb your dream.
