Gas prices rise in Greater Cincinnati amid conflict, attacks in Middle East

DAISY. THANK YOU. OF COURSE, NOTHING COMPARES IT ALL TO THE HUMAN TOLL, BUT WE ARE STARTING TO SEE IMPACTS AT THE GAS PUMP FROM NORTHERN KENTUCKY TO WARREN COUNTY. GAS PRICES HAVE ALREADY INCREASED WELL OVER $3 A GALLON. AND MANY, OF COURSE, WORRY THAT THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. AS THE ATTACKS OVERSEAS CONTINUE. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S CHRIS JACOBS LIVE FOR US IN MASON TONIGHT, WHERE PRICES SPIKED IN JUST A DAY. HI, CHRIS. HEY, SHERRY. YEAH. SO IF YOU DRIVE ALONG KINGSMILLS ROAD, YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PLACES TO FILL UP YOUR TANK. WE’RE SEEING PRICES FROM 309 TO ABOUT 319. IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT GAS STATION YOU’RE GOING TO. BUT ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN, YOU’RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANY PRICES BELOW $3, AS YOU SAID. SO WE’RE AT THE BP RIGHT NOW AGAIN ALONG KINGS MILLS. NOW TO GIVE YOU SOME PERSPECTIVE, JUST YESTERDAY, 230 PER GALLON. THAT’S WHAT SOME OF THESE GAS STATIONS AROUND HERE WERE SEEING AGAIN. NOW WE’RE SEEING PRICES AS HIGH AS 319 LIKE AT THIS GAS STATION HERE. SO THE NUMBER 319, LIKE I SAID, POPPING UP ALL ACROSS THE AREA FROM MOUNT WASHINGTON OFF BEACHWOOD TO THE NEWPORT KROGER AND IN COVINGTON AS WELL, WE’RE SEEING THE IMPACT OF THE CONFLICT NOW. BRANT CRUDE OIL, THAT’S THE GLOBAL BENCHMARK FOR OIL PRICES. IT JUMPED ABOUT 6% TO 7698 PER BARREL TODAY. NOW THE MOST CONCERNING THING FOR MARKETS WOULD BE IF OIL GOT ABOVE $100 PER BARREL. NOW THE LAST TIME THAT HAPPENED WAS 2022. U.S. CRUDE OIL PRICES ALSO SAW A JUMP AFTER THE STRIKES IN IRAN BY ABOUT 5%. WE DID SPEAK WITH ONE MAN WHO WAS GETTING GAS AT THE MASON WAWA, AND HE SAYS HE WAS SHOCKED BY HOW FAST THESE PRICES JUMPED UP. I ALMOST FELL OFF THE SEAT HERE. YEAH, I, I WAS GOING TO GET SOME AT 229 A GALLON OF AT KROGER’S LAST NIGHT. I’M THINKING I’LL GIVE IT ONE MORE DAY. SURE ENOUGH, $0.90 A GALLON, $0.90. YEAH. AND AS A RESULT OF THESE RISING OIL PRICES, SOME PEOPLE ARE PREDICTING RETAIL GAS TO GO UP 5 TO $0.10 PER DAY, AT LEAST FOR A LITTLE WHILE. TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HOW FAST THIS HAPPENED, HOW WIDESPREAD THIS WAS, I GOT A TEXT FROM SOMEONE OUT IN ANDERSON WHO SAID OVER THE COURSE OF DINNER, JUST A FEW HOURS, THEY SAW THE SAME GAS STATION SIGN. DIESEL FUEL WENT UP BY ABOUT $0.60, REGULAR FUEL WENT UP BY ABOUT $0.20. AGAIN, ANOTHER IDEA OF HOW FAST THIS IS ALL HAPPENING.
