Because it turns out that we did need the EU more than they needed us. It sounded great, like a ‘fuck you’ to the EU but the reality is that the UK was never going to survive long going it alone, we just did not have the soft power we thought we did. We then lost access to a lot of European programmes and we lost access to a lot of economic migrants to pick our food for us. Johnson knows that has to be rectified and so has to look further afield, meanwhile leaders like Modi will prey on the fact that Johnson is desperate for any good news. This is the man we gave control to after we left the EU and it is going to really backfire.
