.ie but not really….so very annoying

  1. We never should have relaxed the .ie restrictions

This coupled with Brexit has caused a clusterfuck where this type of scenario is pretty common now

  2. Back in my day, at the very birth of t’internet, a .IE address was precious and hard to get. Then some feckless sleeveen went and sold us all out when the once honourable UCD based registry became a private buisness in 2000. Shit went downhill from there.

  3. Should be fucking banned.

Who the hell is prostituting out our .ie domain to every tom dick and harry.

Is there anybody we can complain to about this?

Can’t imagine how many non tech savvy people have fallen for this.

  4. I absolutely hate it. Have no idea how some of these jokers got their hands on a “.ie” domain.

If you’re going to continue selling to Ireland (or indeed any EU member state), especially with country-specific top level domains, please for the love of fuck localise your site with the appropriate customs and VAT information so that consumers can compare prices without having to call their tax advisor or end up having a nasty surprise from a shipping company.

These are big, capital purchases for households. Shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it and the consumer rights authorities should have the power to yank a TLD or even block a site from Ireland/Europe that don’t play ball.

  5. At this stage I’m always on the lookout for replacements other than buying from UK – it was good while it lasted – OK last week I had to purchase an item but I could not find it elsewhere.

  6. Agreed about the annoyance of that. However if you do decide to get anything from them they are very good for the price point. I ordered a power cage, bar, plates etc. all great stuff. I had an issue with a spotter bar and it was replaced no issues. Free delivery (300kg of weight on a pallet). I’m in the north so it is obv different.

  7. I feel like it’s something that should be looked into as a potential consumer rights issue especially the sites that aren’t transparent about where they’re located and that things won’t be shipping from Ireland. Some sites make it very difficult to figure out where they ship or operate from even if you hold a suspicion they’re not in Ireland. But I feel a lot of consumers would just see .ie and assume it’s an Irish company or at least shipping from Ireland and then get screwed on customs or shipping or long delivery times.

  8. Not sure what you’re looking for but i recently got sbd wrist wraps from a site called nutrition now based in the north, theyre an official retailer. Next day delivery and no customs charges

  9. I’ve been in the web business long enough to remember when the Irish domain registrar lost its own domain name because they forgot to renew it….😁😁😁

  10. Strengthshop.eu ship from Germany and stock the same gear so you don’t pay import.

Really annoying that mirafit don’t ship to Ireland anymore.

  11. Don’t use it then. And give their Google my business a bad review. That’ll make you feel better 😁

  12. I use myprotein but ever since Brexit orders take weeks to arrive vs a few days pre Brexit. Uk companies should not be allowed to buy IE domains.

  13. I run a .ie store myself, and this is super annoying to see, as it devalues the “.ie”. It was one of the things that helped online shops in Ireland, that they’d have an advantage over UK companies.

It used to be that you had to have a registered Irish company to register a .ie. Now I think you just need to register an Irish VAT number, which they would need to do in order to ship to Ireland anyway.

In fairness, these guys make it pretty clear they ship from UK, but I don’t even get how this is worthwhile given they’re all very generic items and must be incredibly expensive to ship from UK to Ireland due to the weight.

  14. The annoying thing about this is that the rules around obtaining a .ie have relaxed around the same time that it should have been getting stricter because of Brexit.

  15. I bought from a .ie recently. Got a letter about a customs charge as they were sent from Birmingham! Didn’t pay it waiting on An Post to send it back to get a refund. IEDR need to change it back to only being available for companies operating in this country.

  16. fruugo.ie – the parents thought they were buying from a reputable seller only because of the .ie
The products turned out to be crap, overpriced and missing components. They are currently refusing to give a full discount or allow a return. The emails are over and back with no end in sight.
