This is through Oliver Solberg’s joint sponsor and Lando NorrisMonster Energy, where the meeting took place, on a frozen lake in Sweden. For the occasion, the winner of the last Rally-Monte Carlo and the World Champion of Formula 1 met with Petter Solberg, World Champion WRC in 2003. After an initial learning session with a road-going Volvo, Norris took the wheel of a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, with the reigning WRC2 World Champion alongside him. A few laps in the co-driver’s seat with Oliver Solberg prepared the Briton to face a whole new world!

“I’m learning a lot; it’s a completely different style of driving from what I’m used to.”, explained Norris. “I’d already done a bit of ice driving, but never in a rally car. It’s a bit different of course, but Oliver is helping me a lot, he gives me tips. I’m having a lot of fun; when I’m in Formula 1 you have to be so serious and professional, here I can have a bit of fun and we’re having a blast!”

The fun continued with laps around the lake in drift cars, designed for sliding. It was a friendly moment between two worlds that coexist but rarely intersect. And for his first time driving a rally car, Norris even managed to impress Petter Solberg!

“I’m really impressed. Towards the end of the day, he really started to push hard. I was driving behind him in the drift cars, and I couldn’t catch him, he was really good!”
