The actual answer is more complicated than the one provided. Latvian connection to Estonians (shared history over 700 years) is far more closer than that to Lithuanians (linguistic history).
Can someone explain for someone who doesn’t understand?
Lietuvieši bija vienīgā tauta ar kuru noteiktās latviešu politiskās aprindās bija pat ideja veidot kopīgu valsti Latvijas pirmsākumos.
For ones saying that uniting Baltics or uniting Lithuania and Latvia is a good idea. Even though we wouldn’t start to hate each other or became anything like balkans. We wouldn’t be able to agree on any laws. It wouldn’t be possible to agree on anything on governmental level. Just study the history of Czechoslovakia in late 80’s and early to mid 90’s. They just weren’t able to agree on anything. That’s why they split.
