The EU Delegation to Albania, through a Facebook status, emphasized that organized crime in Albania undermines Albania’s economic integrity, public administration, and citizens’ trust in institutions.

Present at today’s roundtable were representatives of political parties, researchers, the diplomatic community and civil society, where preventive measures against organized crime were discussed.

“Organized crime undermines Albania’s economic integrity, public administration and citizens’ trust in institutions. This requires that, in addition to criminal prosecution, we focus more on preventive measures. Today’s roundtable brought together representatives of political parties, scholars, the diplomatic community and civil society to discuss preventive measures against organized crime, with particular emphasis on the systematic use of measures to prevent organized crime from infiltrating legitimate businesses and the formal economy.

“Blocking crime’s access to the legal economy strengthens traditional efforts to combat organized crime. Using tools such as license revocation, verification of participation in public tenders and municipal sanctions, authorities create barriers that prevent criminals from penetrating legitimate businesses. This effective approach against organized crime is essential for Albania’s successful integration into the EU,” said EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato during his speech.
