LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Grand Crossing Trail will temporarily close starting Monday, according to a release.

The closure is part of a two-phase construction project ‘aimed at improving long-term trail resiliency and user experience.’ Phase 1 starts on Monday and includes the closure of the Grand Crossing Trail from East Avenue to the intersection of Cottonwood Trail.

“During this time, the spillway will be reconstructed and reinforced to help reduce the frequency and duration of closures caused by high water events,” the release stated. “Trail users may continue to commute through the area by utilizing the Cottonwood Trail as a detour.”

After Phase 1, Phase 2 will involve closing the Grand Crossing Trail from River Valley Drive to East Avenue for repaving.

This project is funding by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation through the Transportation Alternatives Program. Its overall goal is to lessen the time for closures during flooding events and enhance the overall trail experience.
