Who’s building the data center in Clinton? Records provide details

  • 2026-03-04

CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) – Madison, Ridgeland, Warren County, and now Clinton.

We can now confirm Amazon Data Services is building a $750 million data center in Clinton.

A quitclaim deed obtained by 3 On Your Side shows a 99-acre site in Clinton was transferred to Amazon on February 13.

The property is located at 1001 Industrial Park Dr. in Clinton, at the former home of Milwaukee Tool.

The Clinton Board of Aldermen and Hinds County Board of Supervisors approved a FILOT agreement for the property at special meetings on January 15.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mayor Will Purdie said the developer was still in negotiations about “some aspects of the project, which is why no public announcement [had] been made.”

He said the data center, once it’s completed, will mean millions of dollars a year in new revenue for the city, county, and Clinton Public School District.

The center also will represent the fourth major investment made by Amazon in the metro area.

In 2024, Gov. Tate Reeves announced Amazon Web Services would be investing $11 billion into two data centers in Madison County.

One of those centers is located at the Madison County Megasite. A second one is located in Ridgeland.

Early last year, Bloomberg announced that the two facilities would cost as much as $16 billion.

In November, Reeves announced Amazon was investing another $3 billion in a data center in Warren County.

Joey Deason, executive director of the Madison County Economic Development Authority, said data center buildings at the Megasite are already in operation, with additional pads poured for seven more buildings.

“Those are about to hit the tax rolls. The first revenue from those will be coming in next year,” he said.

At the Ridgeland site, four buildings are under construction, with a pad for a fifth building haven been poured.

Said Deason, “It is anticipated that the four in Ridgeland will be operational this year. They’ll hit the tax rolls in 2027, and the city will receive revenue in 2028.”
