iNews should have asked her which party she’ll be voting for in 2024, because I have a suspicion she is and will remain a Tory voter. In which case she’s responsible for her own starvation.
It’s all part of Boris’ tackling obesity plan
2019 general election demographics :
>In the 2017 general election age became a clear dividing line in British politics: older voters overwhelmingly voted Conservative and younger voters backed Labour.
>
>The data shows that there are still some clear patterns along these lines, although the waters are somewhat muddied by a move away from two-party politics. 45% of voters aged 60-69 also voted Tory in that age range, as apposed to just 14% who voted for Labour.
>
>The Conservatives polled best amongst older voters, with 58% of those aged over 70 backing them.
For those that are attacking OP for daring to suggest that older people (for the most part) vote for the Tories, and therefore voted for the suffering they now endure.
He didn’t say she deserved it, only she was responsible for her own suffering. Which is true.
Imagine when you’re 80 and then you have whole communities getting gleeful at any kind of suffering and telling you you deserve it because “you probably vote Tory”. This sub’s blank hatred for old people really is sick and shocking. Like OP literally only even posted this thread so that they could cheer about her suffering in the comments, that’s generally a sign that you should step back and re-evaluate your outlook. Do you not think the world would be a nicer place if maybe we showed sympathy for people unless we’re absolutely sure they don’t deserve it?
ITT: apparently a bunch of people who’re more than happy to be judged on what 58% of some demographic do that they’re in some way part of.
But shes a boomer and so has had a far better life than current youngsters cn ever dream of and has benefitted from spiralling house prices. /s.
The sad fact is whenever I (middle aged, my mum was a baby boom generation and dad just before WW2) say I didnt have an easy life I get abuse and told anyone my age or older had a better life, which is far from the truth. The rich benefitted but the poor then were were off than a lot of the poor now. I see a lot of younger people complaining they cant afford to buy a house and complaining they are poor driving around in nice cars, having a foreign holiday or two a year, sometimes even three while claiming the boomers had it better than them.
The fact is the poor have always been poor but for all but the very poorest quality of life is now far better.
“I keep voting to take other people back to the 50s, it wasn’t supposed to happen to ME”
Every single Boomer in the UK.
the amount of vitriol in this sub against old people is completely unhinged.
she’s a part of the lower class, she isn’t a part of the elites just for being old. we don’t know who she voted for, but regardless she probably did so out of a place of media indoctrination, because clearly it would not be in her best interest to vote tory.
just blanket hating poor old people is fucked up and a weird contortion of left wing ideals. it’s all about solidarity among the oppressed, not just the oppressed who are as politically aware as you are.
edit: she actively criticises the government in the article? you guys suck it’s depressing to see a response like this to such a sad article
Will of the people

I’m 52 next week and have never voted tory in my life. I well remember the eighties and thatcher. But I also remember rebellion in the form of punk rock and later the underground rave scene. People who are ten years older than me will definitely remember these times. Surely these people cannot be voting for the tories?
Whilst everyone else is either being ageist and cynical because they presume to know how she voted or moaning because this sub isn’t an echo chamber that suits *them*, maybe take the time to re-read this line:
“What I have to live on for a week is probably what they [Government ministers] would spend on a meal for themselves.”
I see a problem and it isn’t her age or ‘this sub’.
Just move to spain..much cheaper..oh hang on ….
That kind of weight loss should be discussed with a doctor. I wouldn’t automatically assume it was her diet. I’m not saying it 100% isn’t, but in her age group it’s not the only explanation that should be considered.
Very sympathetic to her feeling of isolation.
I’m 58, I’ve voted Labour for 40 years. It’s not ‘old’ people that vote Tory as such, it’s educational difference. The more educated you are, the more likely you are to be left wing. Lots of older people didn’t go to university.
I live in an area that has the highest number of graduates in the U.K. It’s a wealthy area, although I’m not wealthy and has a Labour MP.
Tory voting and politics aside, do Brits generally save for retirement while young? I came from a poor country so saving money while I’m here is a huge priority in my life since I have a lot of financial obligations and I don’t want to end up in poverty yet again. What about here?
The saddest part is there are likely many people her age, who lived through the same thing (but are still doing OK in the crisis) saying “pull yourself up” crap and “back in my days we coped”
I’m really glad to see the number of people calling out the hatred of the older generations in this sub increasing.
My dad (who died seven years ago three weeks after his 80th birthday) was an staunch Labour supporter. Was a Labour Councillor, never, ever voted tory. Remembers always being hungry as a child/teenager due to war and post war rationing. Was made redundant in his early 50s during the late 1980s, never worked again because of high unemployment, he was too old and limited experience due to having only worked in the same place all his working life. He would be deeply offended for people to assume he was a tory supporter. Hell, I’m offended on his behalf!
Pensioners can live fine on the money they get, if I as a single person on universal credit can pay my bills and feed myself a healthy diet fine then someone on double that can easily
I’ve never voted Tory and don’t expect I will any time soon. Every where I read, people are against them. How do they keep on winning when it’s BLATANTLY obvious what kind of a party they are.
I know Labour isn’t perfect but surely it can’t be as bad the heartless ghouls we have in power right now…surely.
That’s what Brexit gets yous, thick cunts voting first for oppression
Moan moan moan. These old people had a booming economy and had more chances to easily get a decent house and build up a pension. Now they have better access to the NHS than the younger generation who’s taxes rise every year to support them with their medicines and pension.
What on earth has this comment section descended into…
The Tories believe in society for as long as you can be enslaved in it. As soon as you retire, there’s no such thing, and you really should have planned better for this.
Time for the oldies to come out and speak against the tories then….
No? Ok
Was listening to the radio yesterday and they was talking about Boris Johnson/party gate and him changing the ministerial code along with the cost of living crisis etc.
They had a bunch of callers come on the air and talk about their anger, frustration and exasperation of Boris and his lies and lack of integrity and how they were struggling to make ends meet. The radio host asked who they voted for and about 80% of them all admitted to voting in Boris….hard to have sympathy with these people. Its not like it wasnt well known or documented about Boris’ level of deception before the GE.
The Tories will win the next GE too
Why do younger people not take care of their elders? She is grandmother of three, are none of her family helping out? If i had a Nan in need I’d make sure she coukd eat three meals a day.
For all the people blaming her for probably voting Tory – the logic follows that anyone who doesn’t vote in their local and general elections also deserves what they’re getting right now.
Make voting compulsory already. Even under FPTP that’d be better.
This is a hateful little thread all around isn’t it
That’s what 70 years of Tory governments do for you. 70 years out of the last 100 have been Tory governments. 26% inflation and 17% mortgage rates under Thatcher and the fools have voted Tory to repeat it all again, shame for those who didn’t vote for it but for those who voted Tory, this is what you voted for. Disgusting.
