
15 of those pardoned today were convicted on extremist charges

In Belarus, a pardon has been announced for 18 prisoners, 15 of whom were convicted under “extremist” articles. According to a Telegram channel close to Lukashenko, among the pardoned are 11 women, six of whom have children and require ongoing medical rehabilitation.
Among the pardoned are also two married couples, a woman in the final days of pregnancy, and a girl who was convicted of a crime at age 16.
It is also noted that politician Statkevich was released during a prisoner exchange.
At the end of December, a decree was signed granting clemency to 22 people. It was reported that 20 of them were convicted of crimes of a so-called extremist nature, which the authorities call politically motivated.

Such decisions provoke discussion about the transparency of clemencies and their impact on the human rights situation in the country.
