MADISON (WKOW) — The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) awarded $65,000 in Party for the Planet grant funding to 13 projects, including two in Wisconsin. The grants support conservation projects at AZA-accredited facilities, with funding from the Disney Conservation Fund.
“Party for the Planet grantees truly set the example for conservation action at the local level,” Dan Ashe, president and CEO of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, said.
In Madison, Henry Vilas Zoo will work with the Bayview Foundation Community Center to restore native habitats. The project will enhance pollinator- and bird-friendly areas and support SAFE Monarchs and North American Songbirds.
In Milwaukee, the Zoological Society of Milwaukee will lead two river cleanups. The events will focus on bird-friendly habitats and involve La Causa Charter School and Milwaukee Riverkeepers to remove trash and promote waste reduction.
