Tariq Ali Busts the Myth of Winston Churchill ❧ Current Affairs

  1. This myth about Churchill being responsible for the Bengal Famine is just getting ridiculous with how much it’s repeated.

He’s on record sending ships full of food from Australia and New Zealand that were meant to head to Eygpt to resupply troops on the front line and instead sent them to India. Also when the Viceroy was replaced during the war Churchill gave him two orders: prepare India for an invasion by the Japanese Empire and halt the famine. Furthermore, he asked Roosevelt for American transports to help move food from Australia and New Zealand to India but Roosevelt refused.

How after all of that is Churchill singularly responsible and not Japan invading Burma or submarines sinking ships or the terrible weather of the time?

  2. The myth of Churchill is a modern thing, remember he was booted out of office after the war, nobody doubted he was a bellend at the time

  3. Churchill recruited the Black and Tans, called us savages who couldn’t be trusted with our own country numerous times and threatened to invade us during WW2 just because we wanted to stay neutral.

So we’re not a huge fan of him here
