DS Smith plans to invest up to DKK100m (€13m) in its corrugated packaging plant in Grenaa, Denmark, to strengthen production capacity and improve quality and efficiency.

The investment centres on the installation of a new rotary die-cutter line with five printing units for flexographic printing and converting of corrugated board. The equipment – made by German corrugated board processing machinery manufacturer Göpfert – combines servo-driven technology, vacuum sheet transport and automatic register control to ensure high precision and stable operation, DS Smith said.

DS Smith’s Grenaa packaging facility serves customers in a wide variety of sectors, ranging from e-commerce and food and beverage, to industrials. With the investment, DS Smith expects to increase the plant’s processing capacity by up to 15 million m² of corrugated board per year. The expansion is also intended to improve delivery reliability and shorten lead times for customers in Denmark and the wider Nordic region.

The company will also invest to expand its packaging facility in Bredasten facility near Varnamo, Sweden. The upgrade will allow DS Smith to relocate its warehouse operations from Malmö to Bredasten. “The transition will take place in phases with completion anticipated by June 2027,” the company explained.
