The Unit operates from the Nagle Centre in Cashel but hopes to be able to secure their own premises in the future for training purposes and vehicle storage (ambulances and a 4×4 vehicle). This is one of the goals set by Mr Hunt as part of his 5-year plan for the unit which is the only Order of Malta Unit operating in south Tipperary.
Cllr Mary Hanna Hourigan and Cllr Liam Browne attended an event last night where Mr Hunt was formally installed and promoted to the rank of Adjutant. Youth member Rhys Coppinger, the 2025 Cashel Lions Club Young person of the Year, also formally donated his prize of €250 to the unit last night.

The Cashel Unit has 25 members and provides a range of services including CPR training, medical cover at sporting and civic events and patient transfer services in collaboration with the HSE and the National Ambulance Service(NAS). A contract with Horse Racing Ireland(HRI) and fees from First Aid Training courses are the main revenue sources to fund the service that is entirely staffed by volunteers. The Cashel Order of Malta branch also hopes to start a Cadet Unit for members aged from 10 to 16 years, Youth members are aged 16 to 18 and Seniors are those aged 18 and upwards. Cashel Order of Malta would like to be able to provide CPR and emergency first aid training in schools particularly for Transition Year Students if schools can facilitate access. There are approximately 2,500 members across 59 units on the island of Ireland. Further information is available by emailing [email protected]
