The Marriott hotel in Prague refused to host the Uyghur conference, citing “political neutrality”

  1. Marriott is an international chain, based in the US and specific hotels using the brand have little political freedom, so the policies of the chain and maybe the US and Czechia also a bit need to be discussed, but the specific hotel and it’s management is not an issue, as they couldn’t do anything

  2. You may call me old fashioned, but neutral would be not looking at the content of said conference in order to approve it or not. This seems to me the opposite of neutral. But I’m just an old fashioned chap, i guess…

  3. Tbf the Marriotts main responsibility is towards its shareholders, not the Uyghurs. Looking after the Uyghurs and every other oppressed minority is the job of governments and UN agencies, not that of for-profit corporations

  4. Bad look, really bad look. Disgraceful.

This is in Prague too where political opinions are very left. The blue island surrounded by red calling everyone around them fascist and despotic does this cow-towing for the communist party in China.

  5. That’s a weird way to say you’re not neutral. If I was claiming political neutrality, I’d welcome anyone willing to talk about their political point of view.

If Mariott claim to be still neutral, the only way it can be true is if they refuse to host any political conference.
