  1. Keep thinking that’s natural. Are there any industrial compounds nearby? Looks like some chemical leakage.

  2. It’s when it’s cloudy, except for a little strip right at the horizon. It can happen at sunset too. You can get really intense colors, as the light is going through more atmosphere through that little strip of clearness right at the horizon (which filters out the blue light – same reason the sky looks blue normally, and at sunset the light is always more orangey – the more atmosphere it goes through, the more blue light is scattered leaving more red/orange light), and then a lot more of it than usual reflects off the bottom of the clouds and makes it to the ground.

    I’ve seen the same effect, many times, usually with a thunderstom right at sunset – the storm moves through, and you get that little sliver of clear sky right at the horizon just as the sun is setting, and you get intense orange, or pink even glow everywhere. It’s pretty wild looking, but nothing unnatural about it – just physics in practice! Go Rayleigh scattering!
