  1. ‘The police establishment need challenging on race … If we don’t remember the lessons of history, then there is a danger you repeat the mistakes of history. Racial disparity in policing undermines legitimacy and threatens policing by consent’

Good, I don’t agree with this.

  2. About the same as the “not white” copper rejected from the role of the next leader of the National Crime Agency without any reasons given despite being recommended for the job by the expert panel

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/may/28/neil-basu-to-demand-answers-over-failed-bid-to-lead-agency

    > an expert panel assessed that Basu, the favourite for the job, and Graeme Biggar, the NCA’s acting director-general, were sufficiently qualified to be appointed to the role.

    > Both were told by Matthew Rycroft, the permanent secretary at the Home Office, they would not be picked. Instead, the process to find a candidate would be restarted and they could reapply.

    > Neither applicant is understood to have been given a reason.

    > One Whitehall source confirmed claims that the selection process was stopped because Downing Street intervened and favoured Bernard Hogan-Howe, the former commissioner of the Met and a vocal supporter of Boris Johnson, for the NCA role.

Boris intervening yet again in the running of everything and trying to make sure his hand picked puppet will be installed.

He did the very same with the chair of Ofcom when he wanted his puppet (Paul Dacre) from the Daily Mail chief editor to be made the chair / leading it despite the selection committee stating that he wasn’t suitable, so Boris rejected all the candidates that the selection committee did select and demanded they re-run the entire selection process again with his puppet to be placed back in the selection and pressured to be selected… thankfully the puppet left and went back to the Daily Mail

  3. Maybe it was more to do with the fact that bedfordshire has been last in police force rankings for years?

Appointing someone who is shit at their job to be met chief doesn’t seem like a great idea.
