ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is demanding tariff refund checks for state residents and is working to extend tariff relief to New York farmers.
Hochul said families paid more than $1,700 extra because of tariffs on goods including sneakers, backpacks, groceries and holiday gifts.
“We are suing for the $13.5 billion that we believe is owed to us. I want to see that money. I don’t care if Donald Trump puts his name on the check. I don’t care. Just get it back to New Yorkers because this money is owed to us,” said Hochul, D-New York.
New York is part of a multistate lawsuit against the Trump administration to strike down the new tariffs. Vermont has also joined the lawsuit.
