Barnwood Roasting Co. was recognized as the City of Fort Morgan’s March Business of the Month during the Tuesday, March 3 City Council meeting. Economic Development Specialist Sandy Engle presented the award and said the business has helped create a welcoming place for people to gather, connect, and build community.
The shop at 219 Main St. has been open for nearly a year and employs a team of seven. The business serves a variety of drinks made from globally sourced beans and roasted in-house. Customers can also purchase bags of coffee to take home or pick up a danish or treat while they are there.
Owners Jen and Dr. Matt Wood began roasting coffee as a hobby before expanding into farmers’ markets and eventually opening their storefront. Engle said the couple has focused on building personal connections with patrons and on creating a comfortable environment where people can relax, study, or meet.
“We really want to make a space that promotes community connection,” Jen said in the announcement.
Engle said that Barnwood Roasting has also collaborated with several local businesses, including Kukaro Brewing, Shirley Small Gatherings and Fine Gifts, and Books on Main, for events, tastings, and food pairings. Engle said the shop’s emphasis on business-to-business relationships and its belief that local partnerships strengthen the economy.
The business has supported community fundraisers and programs through space and product donations, sponsorships, and volunteer work. Beneficiaries have included Evans Early Childhood Center, the St. Jude auction, FFA, 4H, and local school sports programs. Barnwood Roasting is also a Chamber of Commerce member and participates in CASE’s Third Thursday Art Walk, often showcasing artwork from young local artists.
Engle shared several five-star customer reviews during the presentation, including one describing the shop as “a hidden gem” with coffee that is “smooth, rich, and full of flavor.”
Jen Wood thanked the city for the recognition. She said she and her husband moved to Fort Morgan four years ago and “fell in love with this community almost instantly.” Wood added that they hoped to create a place that serves residents and helps strengthen local ties, and she expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment.
